Minami Deguchi Interview
Question - When did you get started on learning music on what instruments and who do you think inspired you to keep learning and creating music?
Minami
I started learning the piano (didn't really have a choice) in Warrnambool when I was 3 and 11 months old, and I started learning in Geelong when I was 5 as my piano teacher was no longer available. I have stuck with it since, and I am in the middle of completing my Certificate of performance right now. I started guitar when I was 11, after two of my close mates started learning, a year earlier and inspired me to do so as well. I started drums and classical guitar when I was 13 and Bass about 4 months ago. The people that inspired me to keep learning, playing and creating music would be my family, two of my best mates growing up, local artists such as Worm, The Ascended, Cooper Lower, RUNK, Against our pride, and major artists such as Green Day, Guns'n Roses, Nirvana, Metallica, As I lay dying etc.
Question - What is your favourite instrument you play or what you are most good at?
Minami
My favourite instrument to play would be guitar,
as it’s naturally what I want to do, but I’m better at piano as I have 9 more
years of experience on it. Drums, I’m probably as good as Lars.
Question - Do you write songs, or play covers, or both ?
Minami
Both! I love writing and playing covers, whether
it’s by myself or a band situation.
I think I have an fair idea of what I would like
to achieve right now, but plans could change in a few year’s time, you never
know! I would like to do everything an full time musician would do, from
recording albums/EP’s, playing live pubs to arenas, touring, etc.. but my main
goal would be to build up fans who would enjoy listening to my music as much as
I enjoy playing it.
