Sleuth Interview

Q- I have heard your Sleuth album Melissa and I really enjoyed it, what inspired you to write the songs and how did you come up with your name Sleuth?

Melissa - Sleuth is about 'searching' or seeking. Asking questions, digging for answers. My album Umbra Anima was actually named a full two years before Sleuth was - the concept while I was writing it was about exploring the light and the dark in my life, and celebrating all of it. The songs come from various places-some, like "Seen-Dressed to Kill" are about pain and vulnerability, some like 'Empty Room' are about vengeance and anger and self-destructiveness, some are quite joyful and positive for example, 'Colours' in celebrating a friend's life after she passed.

Q-You are based in Portland ? Thanks for coming to Warrnambool to be in Songwriters Showcase in November, we are so looking forward to watching you perform. Where else will you be performing in the near future ?

Yes, based in Portland. I'll be playing at the New Years Eve foreshore event there, and also in Mt Gambier on the 4th January, and hopefully at Nightjar in Torquay and Geelong, during Jan and Feb, Mt Gambier Fringe in March, and Mt Beauty Music Festival in April.

Q-You are a talented singer and keyboard player, when did you first start learning music?

I have been playing keys and singing since I was 3.

Q- What are your ambitions for your future in music and songwriting ?

I'm a pretty ambitious person - WORLD DOMINATION !!! jk. Just to keep writing, and collaborating, and to develop my live performances more to the point where I can stack together a few months of touring and travel. Hard with kids though.
