Latest News Interview with Bruce Campbell

Lighthouse Theatre in Warrnambool July 2021

                                   This Life Music Video

Hi Bruce, it's been awhile since our last interview for South West Sounds, back in 2019 before the pandemic, how has your music been going since then ?

"Covid has certainly taken its toll over the past year or so and I've hardly played live at all. I did manage to stage a successful concert in July this year as part of the new Warrnambool Storytelling Festival. It was called Songs (Stories) of the Land & Sea and my new band (Barnaby Hurrell, Owen Ellemor and Tonia Wilcox) played with me. It went very well and we have been asked to stage it again when we can. During this festival the band and I also performed at the Lighthouse Theatre, presenting two of my newest songs, This Life and The Little Ones. I was really pleased to recieve great feedback on these songs and our performance."

That sounds great Bruce, and also Thanks again for having me along playing at Warrnambool Community Garden Market at the start of 2020 and again in 2021, I really enjoy coming along there and singing a few songs, playing my guitar, buying some fresh produce and a coffee ! When will this live music start back up again ?

" The 2020-21 Community Garden Summer Market kept me busy with music each Wednesday afternoon. I enjoy performing sets of originals and covers there and also organising other local musicians to play. This market is the Community Garden's major fundraiser and without the money raised from selling produce, seedlings, etc, the garden would not be able to function as the great community resource that it is. Many thanks to local  musicians like Russ Goodear, yourself  Fiona and Aniar Quartet for supporting the market. Covid-depending, music will soon start up again for the 2021-22 season.

What are some of your musical and environmental projects you are working on at the moment Bruce ?

" With the Community Garden I am also project managing the development of the old quarry into a multi-purpose event space. The amphitheatre shape is nearly finished now at long last and soon the power, water and lawn will be installed and we can start to plan our first concert there ! Look out for that - it will be amazing !"

"I'm never without an environmental project, whether it's helping run Warrnambool Coastcare Landcare Network, or, my new project, establishing the Regional Australians For Climate Action Facebook group. This has over 200 members so far after only a few weeks and is growing quickly. We hope to put pressure on various levels of government to speed up the transition to a carbon neutral economy that benefits regional Australia"

That all sounds Awesome ! Hows your recording going ?

" I'm trying to get two  6-track EPs finished over the next couple of months, 'This Life', and 'Don't Wanna Be A Cowboy No More'. I recorded the guitar and vocal tracks at Chook Palace Studio (in my back yard!) a few months ago and now I'm slowly mixing in keys and other instruments and hopefully making each song sound great ! I'm a self - taught music producer and I enjoy the process of turning an idea into a song that is of a good enough standard for broadcast. I've had quite a few songs played on Australian and international community radio over the past few years and I know some of my new songs will make it to radio too. There's no money in that, just as there's only pennies from digital streams a song gets, however I still get a buzz knowing that people around Australia and the world are listening to my original songs. Maybe soon the money will start rolling in ..."

Thanks for your interview today Bruce ! I  wish you all the best with your projects and I am looking forward to seeing you perform live again. !
